Nephi had been "caught away in the Spirit of the Lord" into an exceedingly high mountain. (Chap. 11:1) Now he returns. This expression may indicate that he had been absent in body as well as in spirit; or it may mean that he awoke from the special condition during which the impressions of the vision had been received. The Apostle Paul, speaking, no doubt, of his own experience, when he was "caught up to the third heaven," says, "Whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth," and this he repeats, as if for greater emphasis.
