“Not the Destruction of the Soul”
With few exceptions (e.g., 2 Nephi 9:13; D&C 88:15), the word soul, as used in scripture, refers to the spirit of man, that premortal self which is literally a son or daughter of God the Father. There is no destruction of the soul, no final dissolution of the spirit; the spirit of man is composed of that pure and fine substance (intelligence) which can neither be created nor destroyed (see D&C 93:29; Teachings, pp. 352-54).
