Many ancient religions gave their gods multiple names and titles. In fact, some Egyptian gods were bestowed with over one hundred. Likewise, the Old Testament ascribes dozens of names and titles to Deity, such as Redeemer, Savior, Lord, God, Jehovah, Shepherd, Prince of Peace, Everlasting Father, and many others. Similarly, the Book of Mormon contains a multitude of titles and names of deity, and scholar Susan Easton Black has identified 101 epithets for Christ therein. For example, in 1 Nephi 13:40 three of these names (the Lamb of God, the Son of the Eternal Father, the Savior of the world) are used in the same verse. Since nineteenth-century religious works did not tend to follow the ancient practice of giving numerous titles to deity, this is yet another proof of the Book of Mormon’s authenticity.
