The vision to this point has described the eventual dwindling of the righteous Lehites and the rise of the Gentiles. Into this rather bleak recitation of the future comes what must have been a miraculous revelation to Nephi. Yahweh would visit his descendants before they finally dwindled in unbelief. Those descendants so blessed would record the Messiah’s mission, and their writings would redeem the Gentiles. Thus, in a wonderful turn, Nephi’s descendants become the means of redeeming the Gentiles. Although Lehi’s descendants would suffer domination by the Gentiles, they would be instruments for redeeming the Gentiles through their testimony of the Atoning Messiah’s ministry among them.
