“The Formation of That Great and Abominable Church”
Nephi saw the gradual formation of apostate Christianity, a brand of religion in which was found some of the marks of truth but which traded wisdom for wealth, saving doctrine for Greek philosophy, proper penitence for penance and purgatory, prophecy for oratory, spiritual gifts for mysticism.
