Delivery out of captivity and delivery out of the hands of all other nations refers to the wars of independence, certainly including the War of 1812. The vision does not describe the political events of the wars, nor precise details about them, but rather focuses on their most salient results—that God delivered this country out of the control of all other nations. This was the condition in the United States when Joseph Smith was born.
