Why did the future Lamanites dwindle in unbelief?

Thomas R. Valletta

Lamanites consistently sought to destroy the records and traditions of the Nephites (see Enos 1:13–14). Moroni’s burial of the record effectively removed scripture from the Lamanites. Elder Sheldon F. Child reflected: “Without scriptures, not only do nations perish, but families and individuals dwindle in unbelief. Daily scripture study helps us to anchor our faith in Christ. They truly testify of Him” (“Sure Foundation,” 8).

Previously, the Lord had commanded the death of Laban and the retrieval of the brass plates so that Lehi’s posterity would not “perish in unbelief” (see 1 Nephi 4:13).
