“They Are They Who Shall Judge the Twelve Tribes of Israel”

Jana Reiss

As he did in Jerusalem, Christ chooses twelve disciples from among the Nephites to lead and guide the church. Mormons believe that when Christ spoke in the Gospels of having “other sheep” (John 10:16), he was referring to the Nephites as well as to other groups that broke off from the House of Israel. Although we know little about them, their identity will be revealed in God’s time. Today, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is led by a prophet (who acts as the president of the organization) and twelve apostles.
