Symbolism:The prophetic scene shifts from the Messiah’s death—not to his resurrection (as we might expect)—but to Lehi’s descendants. There is no indication that this scene was part of Lehi’s vision, thus suggesting that Nephi received an expanded version of Lehi’s vision. It is relevant, however, since Lehi’s vision had as a strong theme his desire for his family to partake of the fruit. Their differential response ties this prophetic expansion to the original vision. The journey of one family becomes the journey of a lineage.
