Why is Nephi’s use of the title “Lamb of God” significant?

Thomas R. Valletta

The title “Lamb of God” is uniquely associated with visions of the end of time. The title is most closely associated with the Apostle John in the New Testament. All but two references to Jesus Christ as the Lamb (Acts 8:32; 1 Peter 1:19) are in the Apostle John’s writings—principally the book of Revelation. Nephi saw the same vision and of the 72 references to Jesus Christ as the Lamb in the Book of Mormon, 57 (or approximately 80 percent) are in 1 Nephi 10–14, which in the 1830 edition were all one chapter (1 Nephi 3). This proportion is important in connecting Nephi’s vision with that of John (see commentary in this volume on 1 Nephi 14:18–28).
