Even though the small plates are unabridged, there is a practical limit to the amount of material which might be included on them-even a limit to the amount of sacred doctrine and spiritual experience which could be included. Nephi was required to be sensitively selective. Scriptural records generally are fragmentary.
“We Did Call It the Promised Land”
The Lord named what we call the Americas the “land of promise” (1 Nephi 2:20). To its inhabitants the name was to be a constant reminder of their covenants and obligations to God.
