Why did Nephi include many teachings of his father, Lehi?

Thomas R. Valletta

The 116 pages of manuscript lost by Martin Harris included the record known as the “Book of Lehi” (headnote to D&C 3). Fortunately, many of Lehi’s teachings and testimony were preserved in the record of his son Nephi. “Nephi recorded significant portions of his father’s teachings in his own record on the small plates, and that glimpse of Lehi’s experience adds to the reader’s views of the Savior of the world” (Holland, Christ and the New Covenant, 36).
