God is all-knowing and wise. The wise purpose that Nephi does not know about is that the first 116 pages of translation completed by the Prophet Joseph Smith from the Book of Lehi will be lost by Martin Harris—hence the need for Nephi’s record, from which the prophet would then continue with his translation afresh.
