We notice that Laman and Lemuel were joined by two of Ishmael's daughters in this rebellion so there may have been some romancing going on. The two oldest son of Ishmael who were married to the daughters of Lehi also rebelled. Nephi was especially amazed with his older brethren. He began to realize that even though Laman and Lemuel has seen an angel on their previous journey, it certainly meant nothing to them.
