“Some Rebel Against Nephi As They Journeyed in the Wilderness”

Monte S. Nyman

There were at least fifteen adult people in the group returning to the valley of Lemuel. Ishmael and his family consisted of five daughters and two sons, for a total of nine. Lehi’s four sons, and at least two daughters, were there from Lehi’s family, for a total of six. The five daughters of Ishmael later marry Lehi’s four sons and Zoram, the servant of Laban (1 Nephi 16:7). It is assumed all five daughters of Ishmael were adults. Two of Lehi’s daughters had previously married Ishmael’s two sons, according to Elder Erastus Snow’s remarks above. Eight of the adults staged the rebellion. Apparently, Zoram remained with Lehi and Sariah in the valley of Lemuel, probably for his own safety. Counting these three, upon the groups return, Lehi’s party would total eighteen adults.
