Evidence of Nephi’s being a descendant of Joseph is in his father’s record where many other things of his father are recorded (v. 1). Lehi later told his son Joseph, “great were the covenants of the Lord which he made to Joseph” (2 Nephi 3:4). After recording one of the prophecies that Lehi quoted to his son Joseph, Nephi told us why Joseph’s prophesies were great; “he truly prophesied concerning all his seed. And the prophecies which he wrote, there are not many greater. And he prophesied concerning us, and our future generations; and they are written upon the plates of brass” (2 Nephi 4:2). Since many members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are part of the future generations descended from Joseph, they are surely in the prophecies of Joseph. Such prophecies may be read when those plates “go forth unto all nations, kindreds, tongues, and people who were of his seed” as Lehi prophesied they would (1 Nephi 5:18–19).
However, the fulfillment of one of the basic prophecies about Joseph’s seed is recorded in 1Nephi 7 and is discussed below.
