Here, an interesting Hebrew literary construction comes to light. “When one noun follows another in the English language—either in a descriptive or possessive phrase—we see constructs such as ‘brass plates,’ with ‘brass’ serving as an adjective. In Hebrew, this combination of terms would be ‘plates brass.’ In order for this construction to make sense in English, the word of is added, i.e. ‘plates of brass.’ Other examples of this Hebrew construction in the Book of Mormon include ‘voice of the Spirit’ (1 Nephi 4:18), instead of ‘the Spirit’s voice’; and ‘skin of blackness’ (2 Nephi 5:21), instead of ‘black skin.’” (Sorenson, 79.)
