“Our Precious Things”

Brant Gardner

History: Presumably Lehi left servants in charge of the family holdings, since it seems likely that their wealth would have rapidly been stolen if it were not guarded. Significantly, Lehi had not sold or exchanged his lands and goods before leaving, perhaps as a tactic to keep his plans secret and perhaps as a way of reducing Laman’s and Lemuel’s resistance. Whatever the reason, doubtless Laman and Lemuel had some reason for believing they could return to their former life.
