Nephi here testifies that he knows how Yahweh works. He had recently received an answer to prayer that would have confirmed his faith. After the success of the mission, Nephi again testifies that Yahweh will provide a means to accomplish what is asked: “And I said unto them: If God had commanded me to do all things I could do them. If he should command me that I should say unto this water, be thou earth, it should be earth; and if I should say it, it would be done” (1 Ne. 17:50).
