Hugh Nibley comments that the only example of the name of "Laman" (1 Nephi 2:5) to be found anywhere to the writer's knowledge is its attribution to an ancient Mukam, or sacred place, in Palestine. Most of these Mukams are of unknown date, many of them of prehistoric. In Israel only the tribe of Manasseh [from which Lehi descended--Alma 10:3] built them.
