Lehi, as Jeremiah and other prophets, kept a record of his visions, dreams and prophecies, his public discourses and his talks to his children; Nephi does not intend or propose to copy his record in full. He gives part of it in an abridged form, as an introduction to his own story. 1 Nephi 1:18 to the end of chapter 8 seems to be a synopsis of the record of Lehi. His own record would then begin with chapter 9.
