Because Lehi could have hardly rejoiced at seeing, in vision, the destruction of Jerusalem, he must have seen this event in the larger context of Yahweh’s plan and must have fully comprehended why it was necessary. Verse 19 explains that Lehi understood the plan of salvation (or at least that part dealing with the Messiah and redemption), so it was likely this aspect that made him rejoice.
