This heavenly record of doom and destiny which Lehi is given to read may well be the same book as that read by Ezekiel, John the Revelator and others of the prophets. In the book given to Ezekiel he read of “lamentations, and mourning, and woe” (Ezekiel 2:10), which were to come upon the ungodly. The Revelator was shown a book sealed with seven seals, the meaning of which Christ revealed to him. John was also shown much of the earth’s history down through the time of the millennial kingdom (D&C 77:6). That which Lehi read in the book dealt primarily with the destruction that was to come upon the unrepentant nation of Judah—the nation to which the Lord had called Lehi to raise a warning voice. That which he read also caused him to rejoice in the mercy and goodness of God extended to those who would turn to ways of righteousness.
