Virtually from its opening lines, the Book of Mormon commences its mission to sustain Bible truths, testify that Joseph Smith is a prophet, and prove that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever (see D&C 20:11-12). Consider the following: Nephi tells us that “many” prophets were sent to warn the inhabitants of Jerusalem that they must repent or their city would be destroyed, and that they would perish by the sword or be carried captive into Babylon. If the Lord found it necessary to send many prophets with such a message, may we not assume that the prince of darkness also had many “prophets” to confront and oppose them? Such was the testimony of Jeremiah, a companion prophet to Lehi.
